ABOUT PERFORMACE
On the first day of 1993, Czechoslovakia, bearing the official name Czech and Slovak Federative Republic, dissolved into two independent countries. The split marked the end of the era of the state union whose foundation in 1918 the two nations had cheered with great euphoria. Over the almost seven decades of its existence, Czechoslovakia experienced numerous joyous and dark moments, and the two peoples have remained close up to the present day. Has the divorce benefited our mutual relationship, or has it not?
And do we continue to feel an inner bond?
The production (planned as a joint project of the drama companies of the National Theatre in Prague and the Slovak National Theatre) is being prepared by the acclaimed director Jiří Havelka. His stage projects Colonel Švec, Velvet Simulation: Cabinet and The Eye Witness are among the finest the National Theatre Drama has presented, opening significant themes and focusing on major, including controversial (many a time taboo), events from Czech history, as well as affording great acting opportunities.
