Gesu al Calvario
Although Jan Dismas Zelenka worked at the court of the Saxon Elector in Dresden, where Italian opera was publicly performed, he never had the opportunity to compose an opera himself. In the Passion oratorio *Gesu al Calvario*, more than in his other works, Zelenka demonstrates his ability to create a dramatic composition and to depict the psychological profiles of the characters through musical means.
