ABOUT THE CONCERT
The individual sections of our orchestra will introduce themselves to us. We will hear music written in 1892 by Josef Suk at the age of 18 as an assignment from his teacher Antonín Dvořák, who told him: "Suk, it's summer, so do something joyful, so you won't always be writing grandiose things in minor keys." The result was Suk's incredibly refreshing Serenade for Strings in E flat major. We will also get to know Dvořák's Wind Serenade and compositions by Aaron Copland and Miloslav Kabeláč. Then we will hear the whole orchestra in selections from Igor Stravinsky's lovely ballet The Firebird.
The programme is based on a musical part but also on a spoken word that will be given in Czech language only. The programme will not be supplied with English subtitles.
